BAHA’I FAITH

The Bahá’í Faith is an independent religion revealed in Persia in 1844. It teaches that the religions of the world come from God, the same Source of divine teachings revealed by Messengers of the past, and that the purpose of religion is to bring forth a unifying force for humanity. Bahá’u’lláh is the latest of these Messengers. His Teachings are in harmony with those of the Messengers of the past, address the current conditions of humanity, and provide the basis for the further advancement of society.

In Singapore, we are a community that is dedicating itself to a process of transformation that is closely connected to a life of serving the spiritual, intellectual, and material needs of humanity. We see the nobility in every person and welcome all to take ownership of the efforts to contribute to personal and collective transformation.

Our efforts are animated by the principles of the oneness of mankind and universal participation in order to collectively advance understanding of our roles in society. The activities that contribute to this process of transformation are: devotional meetings, children’s classes, junior youth spiritual empowerment programs, and study circles. We are working towards a culture where we strive to raise consciousness through elevated conversations where all advance on equal footing in continuous cycles of collective action, reflection, and consultation.

A Bahá’í is a follower of Bahá’u’lláh—meaning “Glory of God”—the Prophet-Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. Bahá’u’lláh (1817–1892) is regarded by Bahá’ís as the most recent in a line of Manifestations (Messengers) of God. Each Manifestation—namely Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad—had come during different ages in history with teachings to provide spiritual guidance for the advancement of society.

The teachings of Bahá’u’lláh are vast in scope, exploring such themes as the nature and purpose of Revelation, the inherent nobility of the human being, the cultivation of spiritual qualities, and humanity’s interactions with the natural world. The Bahá’í Writings are also replete with references to universal peace—“the supreme goal of all mankind”—as well as explanations of the social principles with which this peace is associated.

The teachings of the Bahá’í Faith inspire and sustain individuals and communities as they work towards improving their lives and contributing to the betterment of society. Bahá’í beliefs address such essential spiritual and social themes as:

  • the oneness of God and religion
  • the oneness of humanity and freedom from prejudice
  • the inherent nobility of the human being
  • the progressive revelation of religious truth
  • the development of spiritual qualities
  • the integration of worship and service
  • the fundamental equality of the sexes
  • the harmony between religion and science
  • the centrality of justice in all human endeavors
  • the importance of education, and
  • the dynamics of relationships binding individuals, communities, and institutions as humanity advances towards material and spiritual prosperity

“The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.”

-Bahá’u’lláh-
